Garden Grove schools on the California School Dashboard
The California School Dashboard does not grade schools A to F. For English and math it reports how far students' average test score sits above or below the grade-level standard (distance from standard, in points), and gives a color from Red (lowest) through Orange, Yellow and Green to Blue (highest) that combines this year's result with the change from last year. The figures below are from the state's 2025 Dashboard data files, for all students.
| Level | English (distance from standard) | Math (distance from standard) | Graduation rate | Chronic absenteeism (K-8) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| California | -8.1 points | -42.4 points | 87.8% | 17.1% |
| Garden Grove Unified | +24.9 points (Green) | -3.9 points (Green) | 92.3% | 12.8% |
Garden Grove Unified scored well above the state average in both subjects, and its English result rose 4.1 points from the year before. More than 60 district schools have Dashboard results, and some of them sit in neighboring Westminster, Santa Ana and Fountain Valley.

Garden Grove addresses served by other districts
Not every Garden Grove address is in Garden Grove Unified. The state's school directory lists Lampson Elementary (Orange Unified, 13321 Lampson Avenue, 92840) and two Westminster School District schools, H.B. Anderson Elementary (8902 Hewitt Place) and Iva Meairs Elementary (8441 Trask Avenue), both in 92844. The county tax rate book also shows a Garden Grove tax rate area (18-003) that pays Anaheim Union High and Anaheim Elementary school bonds, which means those homes are in the Anaheim districts.

School choice in Garden Grove Unified
Transfers inside and into the district
Most students attend the school for their address, but the district runs a parental choice lottery for transfers between its schools. For 2026-27, applications were open from January 12 to February 13, 2026, and specified-reason transfers are accepted year-round. Families outside the boundary can apply for an inter-district transfer. Contact Student Services at 714-663-6391.
Dual language immersion programs
The district offers Spanish dual-language immersion at Monroe and Russell elementary language academies and, since 2025-26, at Simmons Elementary, continuing at Fitz Intermediate and Los Amigos High. Vietnamese immersion is offered at Murdy Elementary, with a second program at Anthony Elementary planned for 2027-28, continuing at McGarvin Intermediate and La Quinta High. Families must attend an orientation meeting to enroll.
GATE testing
The Gifted and Talented Education program tests students in grades K to 11 who attend a district school or live inside the boundary. Testing runs twice a year, with referral deadlines in November for the winter test and April for the summer test.
How to check which school serves a Garden Grove address
Step 1: Use the district's school locator
Enter the address in the Garden Grove Unified school site locator, linked from the district home page. If the address falls outside the district, check Orange Unified, Westminster School District or the Anaheim districts. A listing's school line is not proof of assignment, and boundaries and programs can change.
Step 2: Read the school's Dashboard page
On caschooldashboard.org, look at the English and math results, the change from last year and chronic absenteeism for the assigned school, not just the district average.
Step 3: Plan for enrollment paperwork
New families pre-enroll online at enroll.ggusd.us, then bring proof of the child's age, immunization records and two current proofs of residency, such as a lease, property tax receipt or utility bill. If you are buying, ask how long after closing you can enroll and which documents the school accepts before you move in.
