Hawthorne school results on the 2025 California School Dashboard
California does not give schools a single grade. The California School Dashboard reports each indicator separately and assigns one of five colors, from Red (lowest) through Orange, Yellow and Green to Blue (highest). For English language arts (ELA) and math, the status is the average distance from the grade-level standard on state tests: zero means students scored at standard on average, and a negative number means below it. The figures below are from the Dashboard's 2025 data files, which cover the 2024-25 school year.
| District (2025 Dashboard) | ELA: points from standard | ELA color | Math: points from standard | Math color |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Lennox | -21.8 | Orange | -45.8 | Orange |

The Hawthorne School District, which runs most of the city's public elementary and middle schools, was 29.9 points below standard in ELA but improved by 7.8 points on the year before. Centinela Valley Union High is the high school district for much of the city.

School choice in Hawthorne: charters, academies and transfers
Charter schools that take Hawthorne students
Admission to charter schools such as HMSA and the Da Vinci Schools does not depend on your home address. Da Vinci's enrollment page lists Da Vinci Connect TK-8 at 12501 Isis Avenue in Hawthorne and says the 2027-28 new student application opened on November 1, 2026. Apply on each school's own timeline, which usually runs a year ahead.
Programs inside the Hawthorne School District
The district lists a Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Academy at Ramona and middle school academies in business, fine arts and STEM. Ask the district office at 14120 Hawthorne Boulevard, (310) 676-2276, how to apply and whether there is a waitlist.
Transfer permits between districts
The Hawthorne School District's site has a permit information page for families who want to attend outside their assigned district. Permits depend on both districts agreeing, so never buy a home on the assumption that a transfer will be granted.
How to check which school serves a Hawthorne address
We never say a home is zoned for a particular school, and listing descriptions are not reliable on this point. One Hawthorne condo listing we checked, near El Segundo Boulevard and Prairie Avenue, named Los Angeles Unified in its school district field. Use these steps for any address.
- Enter the address in the Hawthorne School District's Locate My School map, linked from the district's enrollment page.
- If the address is in the Hollyglen area or near the western city line, call Wiseburn Unified to confirm whether it is inside their boundary.
- For high school, confirm with the Centinela Valley Union High School District, whose office is at 14901 South Inglewood Avenue in Lawndale.
- Look up each school on the California School Dashboard for the latest year, not last year's figures.
- Ask for any boundary confirmation in writing before you remove your contingencies.
