BAKERSFIELD SCHOOLS

Bakersfield Schools: Dashboard Results and How to Check an Address

Bakersfield is served by one high school district, Kern High, and about a dozen separate K-8 districts, so two homes a mile apart can feed different elementary schools. On the 2025 California School Dashboard, Norris, Fruitvale and Rio Bravo-Greeley scored above the state in English, and Stockdale High scored 70.5 points above standard. This page compares districts and notable schools on official results and shows how to confirm the schools for an address.

How to read California School Dashboard results

The California School Dashboard is the state's official report on public schools. For English language arts and math it reports distance from standard: how many points, on average, students scored above or below the level the state calls meeting standard on the Smarter Balanced tests. Zero means students averaged exactly at standard. Statewide in 2025, students were 8.1 points below standard in English and 42.4 below in math, and 87.8% of high school students graduated.

Each result also gets one of five colors, from red (lowest) through orange, yellow and green to blue (highest). The color blends the current score with the change from the year before, so a school with a middling score that improved a lot can earn green. Read both the score and the color. The figures on this page come from the Dashboard's 2025 downloadable data files, all-student group.

Kern High School District runs the comprehensive high schools; Bakersfield City School District is the largest elementary district, with more than 40 schools, followed by Panama-Buena Vista Union with 26. The table covers the districts with the most Bakersfield schools.

Ranked by the 2025 English result, these K-8 schools led the city. All are traditional public schools; check the address lookup before assuming any of them serves a home.

Highgate and Ronald Reagan elementary schools (Panama-Buena Vista Union)

Highgate Elementary on Pemberley Passage Avenue had the strongest K-8 result in Bakersfield: 61.5 points above standard in English and 33.7 above in math, both blue. Ronald Reagan Elementary on Rosslyn Lane was 45.0 above in English and 22.5 above in math. Both are in 93311.

How to check which schools serve a Bakersfield address

Never rely on a listing that says a home is zoned for a school. Boundaries change, and Bakersfield has many districts. Use these official steps:

  1. Kern High School District: use Find My School on the district's school boundaries page, or call Research and Planning at (661) 827-3256. The district says its map is for general information and does not replace recorded documents.
  2. Panama-Buena Vista Union: use the district's School Locator. The district is reviewing boundaries across all its schools, with any changes taking effect in the 2027-28 school year, so recheck before you buy.
  3. Bakersfield City School District: the school of residence is set by home address; call Student Services at (661) 631-4729 or the district at (661) 631-4600 to confirm.
  4. Other K-8 districts: the parcel's tax rate area on the Kern County tax bill names the elementary district, such as Rosedale, Fruitvale, Greenfield or Panama. Then call that district.

Compare results on the California School Dashboard. For homes and prices by area, see the Bakersfield real estate guide and the Bakersfield neighborhoods guide; our Kern County property tax guide explains how school bonds change the tax rate.
