Cupertino school results on the 2025 California School Dashboard
The California School Dashboard is the state's official report card. For English language arts (ELA) and math it reports "distance from standard": how many points, on average, students scored above or below the level the state calls "standard met" on the Smarter Balanced tests in grades 3 to 8 and 11. It then gives each result a color from Red (lowest) to Blue (highest), based on both the score and the change from the prior year.
These are the 2025 figures from the Department of Education's Dashboard data files for all students. For scale, the statewide result was 8.1 points below standard in ELA and 42.4 points below standard in math.
| District (2025 Dashboard) | ELA | Math | Other measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cupertino Union School District (K-8) | 84.5 points above standard, Blue | 102.1 points above standard, Blue | Chronic absenteeism 5.6% |
| Fremont Union High School District | 93.0 points above standard, Green | 85.4 points above standard, Blue | Graduation rate 95.7% |
| State of California | 8.1 points below standard | 42.4 points below standard | Graduation rate 87.8%; chronic absenteeism 17.1% |
A school's score reflects the students who tested that year, and small schools can swing by 10 or 20 points from one year to the next. Use the figures to ask questions, not to rank schools on their own.
Cupertino Union School District: elementary and middle schools
The City of Cupertino describes Cupertino Union as the largest elementary district in northern California, with about 18,000 students in 19 elementary schools, one K-8 school and five middle schools. It covers Cupertino and parts of five other cities, so some of the schools below are outside the city limits. The district says every address in its area is assigned to one neighborhood elementary school and one neighborhood middle school.

How to check the schools for a Cupertino address
No listing, map or website can promise a school assignment, and boundaries can change. Use the districts' own tools and confirm with the district office before you rely on them.
- Find the district. Cupertino Union and Fremont Union cover most of the city; Santa Clara Unified covers a section of northeast Cupertino.
- Look up the assigned schools. Use the Cupertino Union School Locator by Street, the Fremont Union school finder linked from the city's schools page, or Santa Clara Unified's school locator.
- Check capacity and transfers. Ask the district whether the neighborhood school is full at your grade and how overflow students are placed.
- Read the Dashboard yourself. Search the school on caschooldashboard.org to see results by student group, attendance and suspension rates.
