How to read the California School Dashboard for Walnut Creek schools

The California School Dashboard is the state's official report card. For English and math it reports how far a school's average test score sits above or below the grade-level standard on the state tests, in points. A positive number means students scored above standard on average. For context, California as a whole scored 8.1 points below standard in English and 42.4 points below in math on the 2025 Dashboard. The Dashboard also reports chronic absenteeism (the share of students missing 10% or more of school days) for kindergarten to grade 8, and the four-year graduation rate for high schools.

All figures on this page come from the California Department of Education's 2025 Dashboard data files, for all students at each school. They are one year of results. Read the school's own School Accountability Report Card and visit before relying on them, and remember that a school's results say nothing about which addresses it serves.

School choice in Walnut Creek: transfers and charters

Intra-district transfers in the Walnut Creek School District

Walnut Creek School District families can ask for a school other than their home school. The district grants transfers on space availability. For 2026-27, applications opened January 5, 2026 and closed March 1, 2026, except for Tice Creek, which closed February 17, 2026. The district says the window follows Board Policy 5116.1. Expect similar dates each year and check the district's transfer page each winter.

Mt. Diablo Unified transfers and feeder patterns

Mt. Diablo Unified publishes a feeder chart showing which middle and high schools follow each elementary school, plus an intradistrict transfer process for requests outside that pattern. Check both before you buy if you are counting on a particular high school.

Interdistrict transfers and Acalanes residency checks

Acalanes Union High School District verifies residency for every ninth and tenth grader, and for older students who have moved. Students from outside the district need an approved interdistrict transfer first. Ask the district about current transfer availability; do not assume a place.

How to check which schools serve a Walnut Creek address

District lines in Walnut Creek do not follow ZIP codes or neighborhood names, and two houses on nearby streets can be in different districts. Never rely on a listing, a map app or this page to tell you which schools serve a home. Instead:

  1. Use the Acalanes Union High School District's Schoolsite Locator, which shows the attendance boundary overlays for its high schools.
  2. Use Mt. Diablo Unified's school locator for northeast Walnut Creek addresses.
  3. Call the Walnut Creek School District office at 960 Ygnacio Valley Road (925-944-6850) to confirm the home school for kindergarten to grade 8; its WCSD Boundaries page is listed under enrollment.
  4. Ask the district for the current school year's boundaries in writing, since boundaries and feeder patterns can change.

Then read each school's Dashboard page and visit. For homes and prices across the city, see the Walnut Creek real estate guide and the Walnut Creek ZIP code guide.
