Beverly Hills crime by year: the California DOJ counts
Every police agency in California reports its crimes to the state Department of Justice, which publishes them each year. The Beverly Hills Police Department reports for the city. The table shows the last ten years in the state file, which runs to 2025.

What the Beverly Hills trend shows
Violent crime rose from between 103 and 118 a year in 2016 to 2020 to 150 or more from 2022 to 2024, then fell to 126 in 2025: no homicides, 14 rapes, 35 robberies and 77 aggravated assaults. Property crime peaked at 1,819 in 2017, fell to 1,244 in 2020 and was 1,082 in 2025, down 20% from 2024 and the lowest in the table. Larceny-theft makes up three in four property crimes.
How many Beverly Hills cases were cleared
The same file counts clearances, meaning cases closed by an arrest or by exceptional means. In 2025 the department cleared 79 of the city's 126 violent crimes and 306 of its 1,082 property crimes. Clearances in a year can include crimes from earlier years, so treat these as a rough guide, not an exact solve rate.
Beverly Hills crime rates compared with nearby cities
To compare places of different sizes, divide each count by population. The table uses 2025 DOJ counts and Census ACS 2020-2024 population estimates.
| Place (2025) | Violent crimes | Violent per 1,000 | Property crimes | Property per 1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beverly Hills | 126 | 3.98 | 1,082 | 34.21 |
| West Hollywood | 263 | 7.54 | 1,623 | 46.53 |
| Santa Monica | 559 | 6.13 | 3,647 | 40.00 |
| Culver City | 261 | 6.54 | 1,914 | 47.93 |
| City of Los Angeles | 25,862 | 6.70 | 86,604 | 22.45 |
| California | 170,397 | 4.34 | 705,925 | 17.97 |
Rates are our calculations. Beverly Hills population: 31,624.
Reading the Beverly Hills comparison
Beverly Hills had the lowest violent crime rate of the four Westside cities in the table and a rate below the state's. Its property crime rate was nearly twice the state's, though lower than West Hollywood, Santa Monica and Culver City. Beverly Hills draws shoppers from across the region to Rodeo Drive, where the Rodeo Drive Committee counts more than one hundred luxury houses, and a rate per resident counts crimes against visitors and businesses as if they fell on residents. That is why a per-resident rate is a poor guide to the risk on a quiet residential street.
What the Beverly Hills Police Department reports for 2026
The department posts a monthly crime statistics report. The August 2026 report, published October 8, 2026, compares January to August 2026 with the same months of 2025.
| Crime (Jan-Aug) | 2026 | 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burglary | 87 | 146 | -40% |
| Larceny/theft offenses | 462 | 561 | -18% |
| Motor vehicle theft | 33 | 65 | -49% |
| Robbery | 15 | 30 | -50% |
| Aggravated assault | 20 | 55 | -64% |
| Murder | 2 | 0 | up from zero |
| Property crime total | 1,053 | 1,408 | -25% |
| All crimes | 1,740 | 2,110 | -18% |
Why the department's numbers differ from the DOJ's
The department's report counts criminal incidents and uses broader categories: its property total includes fraud, vandalism, counterfeiting and stolen property offenses, which the DOJ property figure leaves out. The report itself notes that DOJ statistics count victims, which can produce higher totals for crimes with several victims. Use the DOJ file to compare years and cities, and the monthly reports for the latest direction.
How to check crime near a Beverly Hills address
No official dataset ranks Beverly Hills neighborhoods, and we do not either. These are the official tools for looking at the streets around a home.
Use the Beverly Hills crime map
The city's interactive crime map plots reported crimes by location and date. Search the address, widen the date range to a full year and look at what kind of incidents appear, such as thefts from cars or package thefts, rather than only the count.
Look at the calls-for-service map
The calls-for-service map shows where police were called, including calls that did not lead to a crime report. It helps you see activity such as noise, traffic or alarm calls on a block.
Read the monthly reports
The department's archive has monthly reports back to 2016 and end-of-year reports. Compare the same months across years to avoid seasonal swings.
Check the Megan's Law site
The California DOJ's Megan's Law website lets you search registered sex offenders by address. The city's crime information page links to it.
Sign up for BHPDalert
BHPDalert is the department's notification service, which also takes anonymous tips. Subscribing before you move gives you a sense of what the department reports and how often.
Visit at different times
Walk the street on a weekday evening and a weekend afternoon. Note lighting, parking, nearby commercial activity and how busy the block is with visitors.
Police programs open to Beverly Hills residents
The department runs a Neighborhood Watch program and is recruiting block captains. Residents can request a security assessment of a home, a vacation watch while away, and a trespass arrest authorization for a property. The Community Relations Unit runs a Citizen Police Academy and a Junior Police Academy. For non-emergencies, call the department at 310-550-4951.
Fire, earthquake and flood checks for a Beverly Hills home
Crime is one risk among several. The area north of Sunset Boulevard, plus a few blocks south of it, is a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone; properties there are inspected for brush clearance from April 1 each year, and some streets have parking restrictions during extreme fire weather. The city publishes a wildfire evacuation route map and divides the city into emergency zones you can look up by address. Older wood-frame apartment buildings with soft or open ground floors fall under the city's 2018 soft-story seismic retrofit ordinance. Check any address on Cal OES MyHazards and the FEMA flood maps, and read our wildfire zones, earthquake insurance and homeowners insurance guides.
Before you buy or rent in Beverly Hills: a short checklist
- Search the address on the crime map and the calls-for-service map for the last 12 months.
- Read the latest monthly report and the DOJ table above for the trend.
- Check the Megan's Law site for the address.
- Look up the fire hazard zone and evacuation zone, and get an insurance quote before you remove contingencies.
- For an apartment or condo building, ask about the soft-story retrofit status.
- Ask about any security features, alarm permits or private patrol costs included in HOA dues.
